Auspice: The Launch

The Launch is a GM-less story game told from a deck of question cards. There is no game master, no dice, and nothing to prepare. You draw a prompt, answer it in your character's voice, and pass the deck along. A story builds itself out of those answers, taken one at a time.

Together you are a crew who built a ship to leave a home that can no longer hold you. You cross the void, and you try to make a colony live. Each storyteller speaks for one member of the crew. Nothing fixes whether you are people much like us or something far stranger; the deck keeps its questions open, and the table decides what it is looking at as the story unfolds.

After you answer, you weigh what you just made true. Is it a reason this venture will hold, or a reason it will break? The card goes on the Promise, or on the Peril, until those two stacks are the answer. You are not voting on how the story ends. You are weighing what this crew is carrying.

It runs in three acts, the Launch, the Crossing, and the Colony, each closing on one hard question the whole table answers together. The first is: do we launch?

This is an ashcan alpha, out rough and early so tables can play it and tell me where it needs work. I would rather have your honest reaction than your politeness. No experience needed, nothing to read beforehand. The game is free, its text is CC-BY, and I will have print-and-play copies at the table.
